Future transparency of the Nigerian elections was dealt a death knell yesterday 15th of July 2021 at the Upper House of the Nigerian National Assembly. Members voted according to party lines. While the members of the APC voted against the electronic transmission of results, the PDP voted for the bill.

APC Senate rejects electronic transmission of results.

Apparently, the APC senators had been wiped into line to tow the party stance of rejecting the electronic transmission of results. This becomes a bit more obvious because the senators from the Southern part of the country also voted against the electronic transmission of results.

This incidentally falls against the position of the Southern Governors’ Forum at its meeting in Lagos on July 5, where they called for the retention of the electronic transfer of results in the Electoral Act.
