The Court D’Appal of Cotonou has halted for the moment the deportation of Sunday Adeyemo better known as Sunday Igboho to Nigeria. The authority of the country has remanded him in prison till further investigation was concluded.
Supporters of the Yoruba nation pressure group head had hoped to catch a glimpse of him when he was brought to the courthouse. But they were disappointed as reporters and supporters were barred from the court hearing. The group had remained steadfast and refused to leave till they were dispersed by security agents in the evening.
Sunday Igboho and his wife, Ropo, were arrested at the Cardinal Bernardin International Airport, Cotonou, last Monday on their way to Europe.
However, Ropo, who is a German citizen was granted leave by the court on Thursday, while the Yoruba nation agitator was remanded in the custody of Brigade Criminelle in Cotonou.
