Queen Elizabeth II’s husband Prince Philip and the longest-serving consort to a British monarch has died in his sleep at the age of 99. On Friday the 9th of April, the royal family posted a statement on their website, “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty the Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
Prince Philip dies at 99.
“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will be made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”
In the wake of this sad event, tributes have been pouring in from across the world. World leaders from Scotland, Australia, Pakistan, and Indian have touted the good-natured person that the Prince was.
Prince Philip spent 65 years supporting the queen in her role and finally retiring from his duty in 2017 and staying largely out of the view since. The prince in his active years helped set a new course for the monarchy, championing Britain itself, as well as environmental causes, science and technology.
US president Joe Biden sent his condolences to the Queen and her family telling reporters at the Oval Office the prince was “a heck of a guy.” He further expressed his administration of the late royal and his indefectible quest for work and ethics. Saying, “he never slowed down at all, which I admire the devil out of.”
