Sunday Igboho, the popular Yoruba freedom fighter has been arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic by the country’s security operatives on Monday July 2021. Sunday Igboho was formally declared wanted by the Nigerian Secret Police after a raid on his house which resulted in the death and arrest of some of his associates.

After the dead of the night raid on his house, Sunday Igboho had escaped and was subsequently declared wanted by the Nigerian security forces. The Public Relations Officer of the DSS, Peter Afunnaya had implored Sunday Igboho to make himself available to the authorities.

“Those cheering and eulogizing him may appeal to or advice him to do the needful,” Afunnaya said. “He should surrender himself to the appropriate authorities. He or anyone can never be above the law.”

It is unclear when he will be repatriated back to Nigeria. But the authority in Benin Republic has signified their intention to hand him over to the Nigerian security.
