The Russian warship had sunk into the Black Sea on Thursday 14/4/22 after severe fire explosion that took place on Wednesday. According to the Russian’s defense ministry, “While being towed… towards the destined port, the vessel lost its balance due to damage sustained in the hull as fire broke out after ammunition exploded. Given the choppy seas, the vessel sank,” the Russian defense ministry stated.

Ukraine officials however claimed that the Russian warship was hit by Ukrainian forces with missiles strikes, while Russian officials lay claim that a fire aboard the Moskova caused the sinking of the ship and not an attack.

Meanwhile, American officials are still processing whether to support the claim that the Moskva sinking into the Black Sea was caused by Ukrainian Neptune missiles. while The U.S has thus affirm the sinking as a big blow to Moscow. John Kirby, Pentagon spokesman stated “It’s certainly plausible and possible that [Ukraine] did in fact hit this with a Neptune missile or maybe more”, he added.

Intelligence expert in the person of Justin Crump, has noted that the Moskva’s had served in providing air defense support to other ships in Russia’s Black Sea fleet.

“Its main advantage was very long-range anti-air weapon systems, very long-range anti-surface ship weapon systems. It wasn’t conducting strikes ashore,” he said.

However, it must be noted, since the Russian military incursion in Ukraine started in February 24th 2022, Russia has lost two major vessels. Sometimes in March, the Saratov landing ship was damaged by Ukrainian’s attack in the harbour of Berdyansk.
