For the past few months, the price of cooking gas has been on the high side, making it difficult for most Nigerians to afford it. On Monday, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari, announced that the NNPC was currently increasing the supply of cooking gas, in a bid to force down its price.

NNPC set to work on inadequate cooking gas price.

On Monday at the inauguration of a 120-metric tonnes LPG storage and bottling plant by Emadeb Energy Services Limited in Abuja, The Group Managing Director of the National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari, explained that the high price of cooking gas was an international issue.

The high cost of cooking gas, has excruciating increased more than 240 percent between January and October 2021, as a result of this, most Nigerians who could not afford the high cost of cooking gas, have shifted to firewood or charcoal.

Speaking on the trudge in LPG price, Mele Kyari said, “One is the supply in the international market of gas. It moves with the price of every other petroleum product including crude oil and its derivatives. “So definitely, it is a reflection of what is happening in the international market. However, what we are doing is to increase supply, and once supply increases, the price will come down.”

Over the years, Nigerians have been facing hydra-headed challenges on all fronts, to begin with, the high cost of food and essential consumables is really worrisome, the rate of extreme poverty is really alarming, an average Nigerian is grappling for survival and there is no clarity on the way forward. The quality to live well as an average Nigerian is depreciating.
