The protest, which progressed from a social media campaign into monstrous street demonstrations in October 2020, and was predominantly triggered by the excesses of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a now-disbanded police tactical unit notorious for cruelty against suspected so-called “yahoo yahoo boys.
